Ski report from Phil Finzel

Phil Finzel, set new record time on skis

Hello, I want to start off with a quote, "If you think you can do a thing, or you can't do a thing, you're right." HENRY FORD

I used this event as training for a four month base building program. It was the beginning of the second month of the first phase of three phases over twelve months. I did not expect to be competitive in any way; I only had expectations of finishing. With that mind set, I put things on cruise control and took in the event. The conditions and temperatures were excellent for fast skiing. From my point of view, the race was run well and the support was great. I have no idea what it takes to gain access to a trail system like this, for such an event, but due to the lack of interaction with any authorities, I am guessing that all necessary arrangements were made. When a situation did arise, an evacuation or such, was quickly expedited. Which leads me to believe that the organization and handling of the event was professoinal and thorough. I liked interacting with all the other competitors and volunteers on the trail and at the check points. From what I can tell it seems to get better every year.

Keep it up! Maybe we will meet again.
