Arrowhead's got snow, some grooming, good thing I-Falls way north cause we got some cold weather and more coming too. 20+ states, ~7 countries represented with best winter ultra-fatbikers on planet, experienced, fast and deep field on foot and some skiers hoping for something more than -20F! Likely 135 racers at gun.
Couple things: 2013 Gear check Sat Jan. 26th Noon-6PM and Sun 10AM-2PM at Backus Community Center (900 5th Street Internatl Falls, MN 56649), same place as last couple years pre-race meeting. same ) Street parking or big lot west side of Backus...come in west parking lot door easiest. This years pre-race meeting across street to the east at Aquinas School/Church stage-gym at 4PM Sunday. See race rules for more, not much else new but do have Chili provided 1st Checkpoint Gateway by nice folks Minnesota Sedation Dental. Since most of us have drawers overstuffed with race T-Shirts we're giving free Arrowhead 2013 original tote/duffel bag to racers this year, sweet Storkamp designed Arrowhead moisture-wicking shirts for sale modest price.
Our spare rooms filling up with race equipment and fine schwag for drawing, trophy making party planned next week though we are hoping -30F and soft trail so we hardly have to make any, HA! Thanks to all volunteers/racers who make this race happen especially Don Clark, John Storkamp, John Spartz, Todd Gabrielson, Al Lauer, Tony Oveson, Russ Loucks, Gregg Pattison, Jerald Netland, most all have been making the race what it is every year we've been coming since 2006. Many others!

Today's Christmas Arrowhead showin 4-12" snowcover, last nights reindeer flyby reported to me Friendly Anoka Tower at least north half trail machine groomed....fast. Roster stacked 6 yrs worth of bike winners, 4-5 yrs foot/running winners, best depth talent across Mens and Womens field than any year I can think of.
If travel mode listed erroneously on roster please advise, also anybody thinking of skiing this year please let us know cause you are special. While we most love giving nice donated sponsor products to everyone at Arrowhead Famous Schwag drawings, will have stuff for mens and womens division winners. WeeHaw!

Hope your plans for Arrowhead 2013 are coming along! On our end, permits, insurance and other race logistics are mostly done, now if we can get Mother Nature to quit this Winter sputtering and get serious. Tuscobia race coming up soon and looks like plethora of winter bike, run and ski races set to commence a great 2013 Midwest season. Happy October! SnowBike Races and tough condition Running events breaking out all over the place. If you are sticking around Minnesota the weekend after our race and haven't frozen too much the City of Lakes Loppet is having an inaugural snowbike event this year as well as the Birkebeiner in Hayward mid-March. For the Arrowhead....over 130 accepted entries so far, coming in fast. We cap the race at 135. Most folks seem darn qualified, nice smattering of internationals and my gosh a bunch of nice NODAKs! Behind on website and sponsor updates, hope to catch up this week woops too many foster babies. Some motorized land access issues in news along parts of Arrowhead, let you know if anything changes, currently intend to run usual unpredictable trail condition Arrowhead race so be ready.....WeeHaw!

We would like to make a couple of announcements:
- This year's Spirit of the Arrowhead will be awarded to Mike Stattleman. Mike was nominated multiple times for going above and beyond to assist an injured racer. Mike is also a former Arrowhead A'trois winner. We had an anonymous racer sponsor this $100 award which Mike has chosen to donate to the Falls Hunger Coalition.
- Rachel Utecht wins the 2017 Shackleton Endurance Award for spending the most time on the trail. Rachel was an unsupported racer on foot. The award consists of a $100 donation to the charity of Rachel's choice - charitywater
- In addition to our major charities (Special Operations Warrior Foundation, MN Safe Families, and Falls Food Shelf) we will be making a $100 donation to the Semper Fi Fund on behalf of the Arrowhead Volunteers.
- 2018 race dates Jan 29th to 31st. Cowards won't show.
The 14th annual AH135 will be Jan 29th to 31st, 2018. We will take race veteran apps starting 9-1-17 and rookie apps 10-1-17. Please make sure you have a qualifying race - see below. Our roster is limited to ~150 racers and fills quickly.
Gear check will be Jan 27th/28th. Please ensure you meet or exceed the qualifications listed below if you plan to race.
Trackleaders is offering Spot device rentals and tracking for the Arrowhead. This is optional for racers. They can support rentals and personal devices. Last year they did a simple signup form: http://trackleaders.com/arrowhead-signupCheck out the rules page for proposed changes for 2017.
